Dough Baby is a forthcoming pizza and baked good shop in Hamilton, VA. Their vision for their logo was "funky and sort of retro", using hand lettering and the colors orange and pink.
Despite the name, they wanted to stay away from any obvious 'baby' imagery, so I kept the shade of pink more peachy and retro vs baby pink. I used my classic style of hand lettering and envisioning the idea of dough, let the words form an imperfect unique shape.
Girl Scouts of the USA teamed up with JIGGY Puzzles to create a custom-illustrated puzzle. Girl Scouts wanted an illustration to showcase the values and qualities of the organization.
I opted to create a map of a Girl Scout community, featuring road with names like Leadership Lane and Discover Way; diverse girls and women lending a helping hand or acting as entrepreneurs, etc.
That said, my bright-eyed dreams of being a California girl inspire my art from every angle. As a professional photographer I can't bring palm trees and warm sunsets to Virginia in January, but I can let those things play a role in my artwork.
I tend to favor a mix of pastel and bright colors reminiscent of southern California and the 1960s, wildflowers that might have been found in a hippie's flower crown, and lettering that has a little bit of fun to keep it whimsical.
